Before you book

Questions

The questions people ask me before they book, answered properly. Every answer here matches the agreement you'd sign, because they're written from it.

Do you take a deposit?

No deposit is required. Full payment is due seven days before the event, and the exact date is written into your agreement. If you book inside that last week, payment is due when the booking is confirmed.

Cash, check and Venmo are all fine. I'll confirm the details with you directly.

How do I actually book a date?

Check the date first, then message me. A date is held when you sign the agreement and I countersign it. Sending an inquiry or filling in the Music Planner starts the conversation, and it's the signed agreement that reserves the day.

The agreement names the date, the venue, the hours, what's included and the total.

What's included in the price?

The DJ and MC work, the equipment, and the entertainment described in your agreement. Setup and teardown are included in the quoted fee. Wireless microphones, dance lighting and ceremony sound are included when they're listed in your agreement, so you'll know before you sign rather than after.

Pricing is worked out per booking. There's a published range on my about page.

Do you charge overtime?

There are no overtime fees for the event we agreed. The end time stands unless I approve an extension and the venue allows it, and an approved extension carries no overtime fee either.

Can we choose the songs?

Yes, and the Music Planner is where you do it: first dance, parent dances, the songs that have to be played, the ones that must never be, names and how to say them, and the running order.

Your Do Not Play list is honored exactly. Beyond your choices I read the room and decide the mixing, the timing and the order of general dance-floor music, which is the part you're hiring me for.

Changing songs never changes your price, date, venue or hours. Those need a written change we both agree to.

Do you do more than one event a day?

One event per day, and it's yours. I arrive with time in hand, and I'm there to the end of the hours we agreed. I ran four events in a weekend in my younger years, and one a day now is a choice I made rather than a limit I hit.

What happens if you're ill on the day?

I tell you straight away and arrange a qualified replacement at no extra cost to you, with your agreement. If you'd rather not take the replacement, or I can't arrange a suitable one, everything you've paid for an event I don't play comes back to you.

In twenty-eight years of weddings I've never had to send anyone in my place. It's in the agreement anyway, so you know the answer before you ever need it.

What if we have to cancel?

Tell me in writing and we'll sort it out. These terms set no automatic cancellation penalty. Any cancellation fee has to be written into your agreement and accepted by you before you sign it, so nothing can appear later.

Money paid for services I won't be providing is refunded, less any planning work already done or costs I can't recover, and you get an itemized explanation of both.

We're getting married outdoors. Anything you need?

A safe, dry, sheltered spot for the equipment and proper power. Worth agreeing a backup location with your venue for weather, because Southern Oregon in August and Southern Oregon in October are different propositions.

Tell me about sound limits, curfews and access early, and I'll tell you what I need for power and setup.

Where do you play?

Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland, Jacksonville and the rest of Southern Oregon. If you're further out, ask anyway.

Questions about any of this?

I answer every one myself.
